There are many housetraining tools are the market today, one of the most popular is puppy training pads. Here are some of the more popular housetraining tools for your dog.
Some people choose to use an exercise pen to help potty train their dogs. An exercise pen is a series of gate panels which snap together to combine into an open top cage for your dog. These cages are inexpensive and a lot larger than a crate. Most dog trainers DO NOT recommend using exercise pens as a housetraining aid, unless a crate is placed withing the cage area with a puppy training pads or newspaper in an area outside the crate for your dog to go to the bathroom on.
While this method is a way of keeping your dog contained and keeping their pee area within the contained area, this method of training should be considered temporary because eventually most peoples goal will be to have their dog go to the bathroom outdoors. Exercise pens are a great way to contain your dog, much like a play pen or baby gate is used for a baby. Your dog will be limited to one area which can be easily cleaned.
Puppy Training Pads
Puppy training pads are used mostly by smaller dogs and are also used for dogs who live in apartments or who suffer from incontinent issues. Basically these puppy training pads are the same pads which are used in nursing homes and hospitals everyday for their immobile human patients. The only real difference is these puppy training pads are packaged differently and marketed use with dogs. Some puppy training pads are infused with special odors which attract your dog to relieve themselves on the pad.
If you are not able to take your dog or puppy outside out on bathroom breaks frequently then puppy training pads could be very helpful to your. Training a puppy to use the puppy training pads will encourage your dog to go to the bathroom in the same place. The puppy training pads can then be slowly moved closer to the door. Over time, you puppy will learn to go to the door to go to the bathroom. You can then move the pad outdoors and to the area where you want the puppy to go to the bathroom.

Dog Litter Box Training
Several years ago dog litter box training was in style. This was especially popular with owners of smaller dogs and with people who live in apartments. For some dogs, litter box training may be effective but for many dogs little box training will be a struggle. Lots of dogs would rather play with the litter, or worse, eat the litter, than go to the bathroom in the litter.
On the other hand, some dogs love using a litter box. When dog litter box training is successful it is very easy on the dog owner. For many people cleaning a litter box is a quick easy way to tend to their pets bathroom needs. Generally dog litter box training is best suited for dogs 10 pounds and smaller.
If you are wanting to attempt to dog litter box training then you will need a litter box made specifically for dogs. A cat litter box isn’t tall enough. Keep in mind if you do choose to attempt dog litter box training, litter box training will not untrain your dog from doing their business outdoors if they are already trained to do so.
Whether you choose to use an exercise pen, puppy training pads, dog litter box training or any other tools for housebreaking your dog, the key to success is consistency and to keep your cool because accidents do happen.
